Bob Marley Cantor Negro

 Bob Marley (1945-1981) foi um cantor, compositor e guitarrista jamaicano, responsável por tornar o reggae um ritmo conhecido mundialmente. Foi também um dos maiores representantes do movimento religioso Rastafári.

Em 1962 formou um grupo de reggae chamado The Wailers, junto com Bunny Livingston e Peter Tosh. Em 1971 assinou com a Island Records onde gravou um dos seus maiores sucessos “No Woman no Cry” (1975), que ficou conhecida mundialmente. Suas discografia é imensa, entre suas músicas estão: “I Shot the Shaiff”, que fez grande sucesso na voz de Eric Clapton, “Could you be Love” e “Get up, Stand up”.

No dia 3 de dezembro de 1976, dois dias antes do show gratuito “Smile Jamaica”, organizado pelo primeiro-ministro Michael Manley, Bob Marley sofreu um atentado quando homens armados entraram em sua casa em Hope Road. Os tiros feriram gravemente sua esposa Rita Marley e seu empresário Dom Taylor, enquanto Marley sofreu feridas leves no peito e no braço. Possivelmente o atentado teve motivações políticas, uma vez que Marley apoiava um político de esquerda. Apesar do ocorrido, mesmo ferido, Marlei foi para o palco e se apresentou para uma multidão de 80 mil pessoas.

Influenciado por sua mulher, Bob Marley aderiu ao movimento religioso “Rastafari”, que pregava a irmandade e a paz para os povos. Foi o responsável por propagar o movimento pelo mundo.

A música de Bob Marley foi importante para a aceitação do Reggae no mundo, o que tornou o ritmo um dos mais populares. Marley é considerado um mito, pois disseminou suas ideias através da música.

Em 1977 foi diagnosticado com um câncer de pele do tipo agressivo, recusou-se tratá-lo por questões religiosas, mas no fim de sua vida aderiu à Igreja Ortodoxa, porém já era tarde demais.

Bob Marley morreu em Miami, no dia 11 de maio de 1981, vítima do câncer. Seu funeral teve honras de chefe de estado e a data de seu nascimento é feriado nacional.
